(half my pics are from my phone because my camera died and I forgot my battery charger...so dumb!!!)
This was such a fun trip! We were so grateful for my SIL Katie to come down and watch the kids for the weekend! James had to go to Washington DC for a dental school trip sun-tues. So We came up Friday early evening and then I left Sunday evening. We used it as our 5 year Anniversary Getaway since James would be studying for finals and we had a ton going on that weekend.
We go there around 7pm Friday night and decided to walk down the way and see what kind of places there are to eat at. We didn't want to eat at a place that we had eaten before, we like to try new food, so we hit this Ethiopian restaurant. It tastes a lot like India food to me. You eat with your hands...it was interesting. I don't know if I would go there again, but it was fun to try! We walked around Crystal City and got Coldstone Ice cream and then went back to our hotel and crashed!
Saturday we planned on sleeping in, but you get used to your kids waking you up at 8, so up at 8 we were :( . We learned the whole metro thing, we hit the white house (not very impressive), you can barely see it. We then hit the Washington Monument which was gorgeous, the Lincoln Monument (I kept waiting for Lincoln to come alive like the Night at the Museum 2 movie!), National WW2 memorial (this was gorgeous), Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Navy Memorial (of course), The Natural History Museum (I felt bad going there without Brady), but they did have a Diamond exhibit that was gorgeous! Our feet were killing us so we rented bikes (should have done that the whole day) and hit the Jefferson Memorial which was by far my favorite. It was so peaceful and gorgeous and I just wanted to picnic there all day. There we met up with our friends the Duffin's from Hawaii (they were our neighbors!). We hit the Air and Space Museum and then went to dinner at this Thai Place. It was a lot of fun to see old friends! Always nice to have friends all over places you like to visit!
Sunday we rented bikes all day because our feet were dying. hit the Capitol building which was so gorgeous! I can't believe they put together these buildings so long ago, We walked through Capitol Hill, checked out all the other near by buildings, went to the Botanical Gardens and the American Indian Museum. Went up to Amy2 pizza which was delicious and then went to Georgetown and got Georgetown cupcakes for ourselves and a few to take back to friends in Louisville. Walked around Georgetown and then biked back to our hotel and relaxed with all James friends who came in town for the Dental Meeting also. Randomly we also ran into other friends of James from BYUH who were just strolling around the National Mall too. I caught the metro early that evening and then flew back to Kentucky.
I want to live in DC so bad! It is so beautiful there and I love the big city. Everyone there is a REALLY mean driver...but I can get over that. Hopefully we get a chance to go back again before we leave the East Coast and take the kids because there was so much we wanted to do and see that we didn't have time for!
Thanks for a great trip Babe!
